Frequently Asked Questions

More than likely the answer you need can be found in our Frequently Asked Questions list.

Founded in 1997, Allegiant Airlines offers all-jet passenger service from America's favorite small cities to world-class destinations.

At Allegiant, travel is our deal!  This means doing things a little differently than every other airline.

For example, we don’t fly to every city.
We fly from smaller regional airports (and a few big ones, too).
Our customers expect great fares to great vacation areas
- like Las Vegas, Phoenix, Hawaii, and the Orlando area –
so that’s what we give them.    (view route map)

We don’t fly every day, only the days when most people want to fly.
Flying fewer flights with more passengers means we’re able to pass the savings on to you.

You pay for the services you choose to use.    For example, not everyone travels with checked luggage, so instead of adding a bag fee to every ticket, you only pay to cover the costs of the bags you choose to bring.  It’s just one more way we’re able to let passengers customize their travel in order to suit more budgets.

We offer specially-negotiated package vacations deals!
Allegiant customers are eligible for exclusive savings on hotel rooms, rental cars, show tickets and more as part of an airline ticket package.   You won’t find these deals anywhere else.

You see, we don’t want to be all things to all people.

We want to be the one airline you think of when you need a great vacation at a great price.

At Allegiant, travel is our deal!

Allegiant operates the McDonnell-Douglas MD 82/83, McDonnell-Douglas MD 87 and Boeing 757-200 series aircraft. Both McDonnell-Douglas MD series aircraft are powered by two (2) tail-mounted Pratt & Whitney turbofan engines, and have two (2) flight deck crew members and three (3) in-flight crew members. The MD 82/83 aircraft has 150 coach class seats, and the MD 87 aircraft has 130 coach class seats. The Boeing 757-200 series aircraft is powered by two (2) wing-mounted Rolls Royce RB211-535-E4 engines, and has two (2) flight deck crew members and five (5) in-flight crew members. The Boeing 757-200 has 217 coach class seats.

Battery Powered Mobility Aids:
Battery powered mobility devices (wheelchairs/scooters, etc.) will be checked at no additional charge at the ticket counter or gate and transported if the cargo compartment is large enough and if all federal HAZMAT safety regulations are satisfied.

Additionally, it is recommended that all removable parts (i.e., cushions, arm or leg rests, and side guards) be stowed in an overhead bin or under a seat if the parts fit and also meet all FAA safety requirements for onboard stowage.

In some situations, it will be necessary to remove the battery from the passenger’s wheelchair or other mobility device, and to package it separately:

  • Any battery that is not securely attached to a wheelchair
  • Any lithium-ion battery

Segway devices cannot be accepted for transport as the lithium-ion batteries exceed the allowable battery size limit.

Proper labeling of battery cables and/or providing detailed disconnection and reconnection directions will assist ground personnel at the departure or destination city to easily disconnect/reconnect the battery to the wheelchair/scooter.

Review Allegiant's Luggage Limitations of Liability

Items found in the terminal or on the aircraft are turned into the local baggage service department. All lost articles are logged and held at the local baggage office until the passenger claims them, or makes arrangements to have them shipped at the owner's expense. All items found in the Lost & Found inventory are held for thirty (30) days. After that time, unclaimed items are forwarded to System Baggage Service for salvage. All high value items are locked in a secure area whenever possible to reduce the possibility of theft. All passengers with Lost & Found issues are asked to go to the airport where the articles were lost.

Please visit your airport Allegiant Baggage Service Office to complete a Delayed Baggage report  within four (4) hours of arrival time.

If you want to ensure that your party is seated together, we do recommend reserving seats in advance.
While we will do our best to accommodate families, the availability of seats together cannot be guaranteed.

How to reserve seats:
You can reserve a seat for a nominal fee when you make your reservation or by logging in to your MyAllegiant account at any time up until you check in for your flight.
Due to FAA safety regulations exit row seating may not be available to families with children and/or passengers with special service requests.

If you choose not to reserve a seat:
At check in, whether online or at the airport, our system will assign you a seat from the remaining available seats on the plane.

Online check in is available starting 24 hour before flight departure.  It's easy.  When you check in online, you can view your assigned seats.  If you want to change your seat, simply log in to your MyAllegiant account and reserve a different seat for your flight.

Please be sure to verify your seat assignments in advance of checking in.  Once you have printed a boarding pass or checked in at the airport, your seat assignment cannot be changed.

Online check-in is available starting 24 hours before scheduled flight departure.

Most passengers should be able to check in online, however some passengers will not be able to print a boarding  pass and will be instructed to check in at the airport ticket counter.
The reason for this is usually so that we can best accommodate special service requests on a passenger itinerary (such as a pet in cabin, wheelchair, or special need) or to better seat families together.

Remember, even if you check in online, we recommend all passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before scheduled flight departure.
Checked baggage must be brought to the airline ticket counter at least one hour before departure.
Please plan to be completely checked in, through airport security, and in the departure boarding gate area one hour before departure time.

Please arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled flight departure.
Plan to be completely checked in, through airport security and at the departure boarding gate at least one hour before your flight.

There are two ways to check in for your flight:  online (preferred) or at the airport.

Online check-in:
You can check in online starting 24 hours before your flight by visiting the "Check-in" section of  the Web site.
Verify your seat assigments and bag reservations then
print your boarding pass.  It's easy!

Checked baggage must be brought to the airport ticket counter at least one hour before flight departure.
Otherwise, proceed through TSA airport security to the boarding gate.

Please note:  Not all passengers can check in online.  Some passengers (like passengers with pets or special needs) may be required to check in at the airport ticket counter.

At the airport:
Locate the Allegiant airline ticket counter and present your confirmation number and a government-issued photo i.d. such as a driver's license or passport.
All passengers over the age of 18 and any minors traveling alone must present a photo i.d.
Passengers must be checked in at the ticket counter at least one hour before flight departure.
Checked baggage must be brought to the airport ticket counter at least one hour before flight departure.

Seat assignments at time of check in:
If you did not pre-purchase reserved seats, your seats will be assigned by our system during check in.
You can change your seats, reserve bags online, and upgrade to priority boarding before you print your boarding pass by logging into your MyAllegiant account.
Once you arrive at the airport or print a boarding pass, changes cannot be made to your itinerary.
(Seats cannot be changed at the airport and baggage fees are higher at the airport, so please verify your seats and bags in advance.)

Check-in cut off times:
Passengers must check in at least one hour before the scheduled flight departure.

Allegiant recommends arriving at the airport at least two (2) hours prior to scheduled flight departure.

Please plan accordingly so that you are checked in for your flight, through airport security, and at the boarding gate at least one hour before scheduled flight departure.

Passengers with checked baggage must check in at the the airport ticket counter at least one hour before flight departure.

The Transportation Security Administration  (TSA) requires photo identification for all passengers over the age of 18, as well as for all passengers under the age of 18 who are traveling alone.
This photo identification must be issued by a state or national government (such as a driver's license or passport).
Failure to provide proof of age will result in denied boarding.

When a second seat is purchased during the initial booking process, two seats will be pre-assigned (at no additional charge) in order to ensure the customer of size has two seats side-by-side. If a second seat is purchased on the date of travel, the agent will be unable to sell the second seat unless they can ensure two seats are available side-by-side. In the event the flight is sold out and an extra seat is unavailable, the customer of size shall be denied travel in the interest of safety.

Because size can fluctuate, we are unable to give blanket or pre-approved authorization.

Again, if a customer cannot lower the armrests, the additional seat purchase is necessary. Simply having broad shoulders would not necessarily prevent another customer from occupying adjoining seats. The upper body can be adjusted, but the portion of the body in the actual seating and armrest area doesn't have this flexibility.

If you are traveling with a travel companion who doesn't mind encroachment from the adjacent seatmate, we will allow your companion to occupy the seat adjacent to you, assuming it poses no safety concerns. We will not, however, ask other customers to give up their comfort or the full use of their seat to accommodate a customer of size.

No, if on the day of travel we can accommodate you by having open seats we will do so at no charge. However, we have no way of knowing what the booking levels will be: if no seats are available to purchase, you may be denied travel without any type of compensation.

Many customers may choose to use a seatbelt extension but occupy only one seat. These customers would not be asked to purchase an additional seat. If, however, a customer cannot lower the armrest and is unable to comfortably and safely travel with it in the down position, he/she will be required to purchase an additional seat.

Our policy does not focus on weight, and the seatbelt extension is not the determining factor. We use the ability to lower the armrests as the gauge, as the armrests are truly the definitive boundary between each seat.

The armrest is the definitive gauge, as it serves as the boundary between seats. Customers who are unable to lower the armrest and/or compromise any portion of adjacent seat(s) should proactively book the number of seats needed during the initial booking. Allegiant seats measure 17.8" from inside of armrest to inside of armrest.

Our mission and responsibility per our Contract of Carriage is to provide safe and comfortable air transportation for each and every customer.

If a customer purchases an additional seat upon initial booking, the second seat will be sold at the same low fare as the first seat. Pre-selected seat fees shall be waived to ensure the customer gets two seats side-by-side. A second seat may be purchased up to or on the date of travel at the lowest fare available, but all purchases are based on availability.

A woman who is pregnant will not necessarily need to occupy two seats if she can lower the armrest.

In order to give each customer's concerns the attention that they deserve, Allegiant asks that all issues concerning completed travel be sent in writing to:

·          Persons using a portable oxygen concentrator are not permitted to sit in an exit row or bulkhead; and
·          When the "Fasten Seat Belt" sign is turned off, passengers operating their portable oxygen concentrator may continue to operate it while moving about the cabin.

5.     The user of the portable oxygen concentrator must comply with the following conditions to use the device onboard the aircraft:
·          The user must be capable of hearing the unit's alarms, seeing the alarm light indicators, and have the ability to take the appropriate action in response to the various caution and warning alarms and alarm light indicators, or be traveling with someone who is capable of performing those functions;
·          The user must ensure the portable oxygen concentrator is free of oil, grease or other petroleum products, is in good condition, and free from damage or other signs of excessive wear or abuse;
·          The user must inform Allegiant that he or she intends to use a portable oxygen concentrator onboard the aircraft. The user must have a written statement, signed by a licensed physician, in that person's possession, and must allow Company personnel to review the contents of the physician's statement which must:
a.     state whether the user of the device has the physical and cognitive ability to see, hear and understand the device's aural and visual cautions and warnings and is able, without assistance, to take the appropriate action in response to those cautions and warnings;
b.     state whether or not oxygen use is medically necessary for all or a portion of the duration of the trip and;
c.     specify the maximum oxygen flow rate corresponding to the pressure in the cabin of the aircraft under normal operating conditions.
Only lotions or salves that are oxygen-approved may be used by persons using the portable oxygen concentrator device.
The user must carry on the flight a sufficient number of batteries to power the device for the duration of the oxygen use specified in the physician's statement, including a conservative estimate of any unanticipated delays;
The user must ensure that all batteries carried onboard the aircraft in carry-on baggage are protected from short circuit and are packaged in a manner that protects them from physical damage; and

When a battery-powered portable oxygen concentrator is carried onboard the aircraft as carry-on baggage and is not intended to be used during the flight, the battery must be removed and packaged separately unless the Concentrator contains at least two effective features to prevent accidental operation during transport.

Allegiant does not provide oxygen for passenger use onboard.
Please refer to:
What are the rules for traveling with a respiratory device?

Liquid oxygen cannot be carried onboard any Allegiant aircraft.
Allegiant is not equipped to transport or provide medical oxygen or other hazardous materials and/or contained gas either in the passenger cabin or as cargo or baggage.
Any customer requiring a constant supply of compressed or liquid medical oxygen cannot travel on Allegiant.
If there is a question as to a customer's ability to travel the duration of a flight without the use of medical oxygen, Allegiant requires the user to have a written statement from a licensed physician to verify the customer can complete the flight safely and without the use of medical oxygen.
Click here to get the Physician Consent Form template.
The Physician Consent Form will only be accepted if printed on the physician's letterhead and fully completed.
Please note, certain units identified as ventilators, respirators, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines and Portable Oxygen Concentrators are acceptable as checked or carry-on baggage if the units fit the size limitations for under the seat or overhead stowage

  1. The passenger using qualifying respiratory device or portable oxygen concentrator must check in and arrive at the departure gate no less than one hour prior to departure.
  2. Prior to boarding, an Allegiant Customer Service Agent will verify the ventilator, respirator, CPAP machine, or POC model and physician's letter.

Seat Assignments
The choice is yours.
All Allegiant flights feature comfortable, assigned leather seats. For a nominal fee, you can select your seat at the time of reservation, guaranteeing your comfort and location onboard your flight. If you're traveling with a companion, ensure you sit together. If you qualify, you can even book an exit row with increased leg room.
For passengers who choose not to pre-purchase a seat assignment at the time of booking:

  • When you check in for your flight, (whether online or at the airport), you will be assigned a seat by our system at no cost.
  • If you check in online, you will be able to view your assigned seats and upgrade if desired.
  • You can change or purchase seats on an existing reservation by logging in to MyAllegiant.
  • Seat assignments cannot be changed at the airport or once a boarding pass has been printed.

Travelers are advised to book in advance through the Allegiant Air Web site or customer call center.
Airline tickets for same day travel may be purchased at the airport ticket counter based on availability.
Airport ticket counter hours are limited and vary by location.

Qualifying itineraries can be cancelled without penalty through your “My Allegiant” account or by contacting Allegiant’s Reservation Center within 24 hours of booking, provided the scheduled time of departure was at least one week (168 hours) away at time of booking.
Otherwise, all purchases of travel, hotel, auto, activities or services, baggage and seat fees, and related booking fees, carrier charges, and taxes are non-refundable.

If you do choose to cancel or change your reservation, any remaining credit will be issued in the form of a travel voucher.
The specific amount of credit issued depends on your itinerary, how far in advance of travel you cancel/change a reservation, and whether you have purchased TripFlex travel protection with your tickets.
Please visit Terms and Conditions for details.

No.
Allegiant is a ticketless (or e-ticket) airline.
You will receive a confirmation via e-mail and can always log in to your MyAllegiant account to view, print or change your itinerary.

No.  You are not expected to confirm your flight.
We do, however, encourage you to check in online starting 24 hours before and up to 45 minutes prior to flight departure.
That way, you can verify your itinerary, reserve your checked and carry-on bags, view your seat assignments and print a boarding pass.

Allegiant recommend passengers make flight reservations in advance of travel but we do not require advance purchase or airline tickets.
All airline reservations booked within two hours of scheduled departure must be booked at the airport.

Please make your hotel and rental car reservations in advance of your travel dates.

A confirmation will be sent via email once you've purchased your reservation.

You can access a copy of your travel itinerary and receipt by logging in to the MyAllegiant section of www.allegiantair.com.

You may book up to nine (9) passengers on a single itinerary. To book ten (10) or more passengers, multiple reservations are needed to accommodate all travelers.

The desire for the lowest possible fare is understandable; however, Allegiant unfortunately cannot refund or credit fare differences after a reservation has been made through the Allegiant Reservations Center. However, you can make changes to your reservations online at www.allegiantair.com. For reservations with Travel Protection, no change fees will be applied, but for those reservations without Travel Protection, all applicable fees will apply to any changes made. When the original ticket is purchased, via the web or by a reservations agent, the purchaser of the ticket is prompted or asked if they agree to the following terms and conditions in order to purchase the ticket: "All tickets are non-refundable, one-way, and ticketless". This is because Allegiant unfortunately cannot control when a passenger will book their flight. Allegiant also does not have advance knowledge of when specials will be offered. The fluctuation in a fare may also be caused by cancellations, and since Allegiant does not overbook its flights, a seat may become available at a lower price.

Allegiant does not offer any type of bereavement fare. Allegiant's prices are quite competitive and some of the best in the industry.

Yes.
When you are booking a ticket for another person on the Web site, fill out his/her information in the travelers details section.

Then, when you are prompted to check out, on the payment page of the Web site, simply enter your credit card number, name, billing address, and phone number.

In an effort to keep our fares low for all passengers and to stay competitive, Allegiant does not offer medical exceptions. Allegiant does apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However; Allegiant does offer low fares in all markets that are served.
There are a couple of options that are available:
1.Cancel your itinerary
2.Change the date(s) of travel
3.Change the name(s) on your itinerary
These options are still subject to the fees.

Passengers who have not purchased a seat assignment -- "Not assigned" -- will be assigned a seat by our system at no cost upon check-in. You can view your assigned seats during online check-in starting 24 hours before flight departure.  The availability of seats together cannot be guaranteed and seat assignments cannot be changed at airport check-in.  If you would like to change or purchase reserved seats, simply log in to MyAllegiant to select seats before you check-in online or get to the airport.   Once your boarding pass has been printed, you cannot make changes.

Convertible-type car seats designed for forward or backward installation in a forward-facing aircraft seat. Many of these carry the FMVSS.213 insignia and/or language indicating that they are "approved for use in motor vehicles and on aircraft." Any child restraint device manufactured between January 1, 1961 and February 25, 1985, must have the following label: "This child restraint device conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards." Any child restraint device manufactured since February 26, 1985, must have both of the following labels: "This child restraint device conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards" and "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft."

Each fare-paying passenger is allowed to take a stroller or a car seat to the boarding area. The stroller or car seat can also be checked at the time of check-in. If the stroller or car seat is taken to the gate, it will be "Gate Checked". This means that it will be stowed in the cargo hold of the aircraft and can then be picked up at gate side upon reaching the aircraft's final destination.

The FAA requires all passengers over two (2) years of age to sit in their own seat. Allegiant requires that children between fourteen (14) months and twenty-four (24) months of age carry a certified copy of their birth certificate with a raised seal to prove their age. TSA requires government-issued identification for all passengers over eighteen (18) years of age. If a passenger appears to be eighteen (18) years of age, it is recommended they bring photo identification. Allegiant requires age verification for all passengers under the age of 18 who are traveling alone. Failure to provide proof of age will result in denied boarding. Photo identification must be issued by a state or national government (such as a driver license, state issued identification cards, or passport). Individuals without government-issued identification may be required to undergo additional security screening.

Allegiant will not permit anyone under the age of 18 traveling alone to travel on the affected flight. When minors are denied travel, please see an agent or contact the Allegiant Reservations Center and use option 2 for all options.

Children between the age of fifteen (15) years old and seventeen (17) years old can be booked online with no extra fees.

Children who are between fifteen (15) days old and under the age of two (2) years old will not be charged if they are not occupying a seat and accompanied by a fare-paying passenger who is fifteen (15) years of age or older. These children are considered and referred to as "Lap Children". Proof of age, such as birth certificate, is required.

Children fourteen (14) years and younger must be accompanied by an adult fifteen (15) or older.
Allegiant does not offer unaccompanied minor services.

At this time, the FAA has approved only the AmSafe Aviation CARES, which is appropriate for children weighing between 22 and 44 pounds. The AmSafe Aviation CARES must have a label indicating "FAA Approved in Accordance with 14CFR 21.305(d), Approved for Aircraft Use Only."

Customers planning to travel to Hawaii with a service dog should view the Hawaii Department of Agriculture Web site and plan accordingly.

Yes, Allegiant accepts live animals/pets (domestic cats and dogs only) in the passenger cabin of the aircraft on flights within the contiguous 48 United States.
Pets in cabin must be in an FAA approved kennel or carrier that fits under the seat which will allow a maximum size of 9" H x 16" W x 19" D.
Soft–sided carriers are strongly recommended since pets must be comfortable while remaining in the carrier, under the seat, at all times.
Pets need to be able to stand and turn inside the carrier, so the CSA/GOA will determine if there is adequate room in the carrier for any pet(s).
A kennel or carrier is included in the carry-on baggage limitations.
There is a $100 fee per one–way flight for each carrier in the cabin, with no more than two (2) pets per carrier.
This fee must be paid at the time of booking the reservation. To book a reservation with a pet, please contact the Allegiant Reservation Center and use option 1 and tell the agent you are booking with a pet.
The per segment call center Booking Fees will be waived.
Customers traveling with pet carriers may not be seated in exit rows, one row before or after an exit row or in the bulkhead seats for safety reasons since the carrier must fit under the seat. There can only be one (1) pet carrier per side, for a maximum of two (2) pet carriers per row.
